Direct Access

It is now possible to see a dental hygienist, without first seeing a dentist for an oral examination. Juliette is able to provide oral hygiene treatments, preventive care and the treatment of gum disease. Regular visits with a hygieinist will help prevent bad breath, tooth decay, gum disease and will keep your teeth and mouth looking  and feeling healthy.

However, a hygienist will not carry out a complete examination and it is still necessary for you to have regular check ups with a dentist according to your individual needs. Your dentist will be able to fully diagnose tooth decay, other oral conditions and provide a suitable treatment plan.

If your hygienist finds any dental problems, a referral to a dentist for treatment will be recommended.  Juliette may also ask your permission to request from  your own practice information such as copies of your last x-rays, previous treament for gum disease or to ask about the recommended frequency of your check ups. There is no set frequency for hygiene treatments as every patient has different needs. Recall frequencies are tailored to your personal requirements. For example, in the case of advanced gum disease you may need a course of treatment with more frequent, longer appointments - Alternatively, if you have a healthy mouth, the recommended recall period could range from 3 to 12 months.  Juliette will suggest a hygiene treatment frequency that best suits your needs.

When seeing  Juliette for the first time, you will be asked to provide a your  medical history and sign a Direct Access Consent Form.

If you have any questions about your first appointment please don't hesitate ask!
